Good evening, Rallypoint, and welcome to this edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for March 25, 2025.
I enjoy seeing Art come alive. If you recall the eclipse imagery from Blue Ghost last week, the atmospheric ring around Earth as it passed between the Moon and the Sun was a bit of a surprise. So would there be a blue band across the Moon as it slid into Earth's shadow? Turns out the answer would be a 'Yes'...as this composite image shows us. The gray is the color of the Moon in full sunlight. The blue is refracted sunlight through Earth's atmosphere. And the blood Moon is what we see after direct sunlight is gone.
It is amazing what an artist can do on a simple palette, isn't it?
