Now, let's require reviewers of outside care to be qualified in the specialty they are reviewing. I spent months in pain while an MD and a NP with zero qualifications in either gynecology or urology denied a referral to a pelvic floor specialist. The Battle Creek VA had no such staff.

Cecelia - I'm a VFW member, but I don't speak for National. You should reach out through your state VFW Department (or your own Post, if you are a member), or - contact the VFW in Wash D.C. directly with those excellent points! and/or through the American Legion.

I don't think you realize just how much of boys' clubs the VSO's are. It is across the board, and I have been in three states over a quarter century now. Nobody does anything for a woman veteran, unless she has some male relative who is a member, or other connection.

SrA Cecelia Eareckson - I do, actually. Managed the membership of the largest VFW in Florida for 7 years - I talked about it constantly. Hang in there!

COL (Join to see) Thank you. The usual reaction, if any, is to the effect that I only had a single experience. That assertion being made with utmost confidence - and no basis in fact.

A federal watchdog found a benefits calculator the VA used for figuring monthly compensation amounts for disabled veterans had errors that incorrectly lowered payments for certain complex illnesses and injuries. The VA discontinued the calculator that was producing the errors in October 2024, but continued to use an older “legacy” calculator that was functioning correctly, the inspector general’s office said. Mistakes in underpayments ranged from $132 all the way up to $4,170. Some overpayments were also reported.

At least it came to light and they addressed it. Nothing happens if we don't speak out!
