My kids have been to schools all over, but the cafeterias in the Hawaiian school system were by far the best we saw -- seems they took the food budget and balanced the books between hiring cooks and sourcing local foods vice corporate cafeteria fare

When I Was Employed At Brinley Middle School, Here In Vegas; Every Day, the Principal, Michael Kinnard, Would Call One Of The Students Into His Office, Give Them Money To Purchase His Lunch From The Cafeteria; Mike Would Check-Out The Quality & Flavor Of The Students Cafeteria, If It Wasn't Good Enough, He'd Immediately Head Over To The Cafeteria To Get An Explanation & Make The Changes. Oddly Enough, The Student's Food Kept Getting Better, But He Continued With The Same Procedure. ~ And MOST Of Us Really Liked Mike ~ He Was What The Kids Would Say "He Was A Really Cool Dude" ~ And So Did We Semi-Adults!

"Food marketing thrives on that confusion. Labels like “low sugar” and “low fat” are slapped on ultra-processed, nutrient-poor products. Big food companies generate billions off that illusion while Americans get sicker. Meanwhile, insurance and pharmaceutical companies profit from treating diet-related illnesses in people who never had consistent access to or education about real nutrition."

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - Your comment reminds me of something I read that might be of interest. More salt and sugar are put in many foods than necessary because they each tone down the other . . . and people like the combination taste. So . . . I have these Costco honey roasted mixed nut that I like. I really paid attention to the salt/sugar mix the other day. And there is both more salt and more sugar then is needed, way more! But together, as a coating, it is pleasing to the palate and they do tone down one another. Fortunately, I only eat a handful as a treat, periodically.

We Tend To Purchase The BBQ'ED Chicken Fresh Off The Spit At, I THINK It's Wal-Mart. It's Actually An Inexpensive Way To Purchase Their Chicken And Here's The Reason:. The Chicken Used Is Close To The Expiration Date And It's Not Profitable To Be Discarded, So It's BBQ'ED And Sold At A Reduced Price. ~"Works For ME And It's Really Some Good Stuff.!

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - I bought one of those at WalMart. It was actually good, not overly seasoned nor greasy. It was fully cooked too, throughout. The last (and second) time (when having groceries delivered) it was substituted with something I would not have ordered. Now it is possible to select a substitute preference or cancel an item.

An equally solid start would be by making the stuff that's obviously junk food more expensive than the fresh meat, produce, milk, etc. You'd think that the more processing something goes through the more expensive it is for the manufacturer to get it to the finish line.
