The article still doesn't understand the correct use of Marine Ground Combat and Army Ground Combat forces. If I was in the Army I'd be offended. Nobody picks on my Army Infantry brethren but me and my fellow Marines.
With Marines, it's all about getting to the Force Beachhead Line. Conduct a passage of lines with the Army, go open another beachhead. With the Army, it's all about beyond the Force Beachhead Line, grind the bad guys to dust. That having been said, no plan ever survives contact with the enemy.'There are not many examples of that doctrinally pure employment in US history. So it ends up, "Hey, who's next to go kick ass and take names?".
The Navy doesn't adjust well to people they don't know, so they can hide behind us, hold onto our shirt tails, and stare at the Army until they decide if the scary men are friendly or not. (Yes, it is a cheap shot. But admit it, you'd be disappointed if I didn't take one.)
