Most places, both parties already exhausted their ability to gerrymander. That's why there are only about 20 competitive House seats nationwide. What changed is that SCOTUS in recent years started ruling that Jim Crow is dead and the former Confederate states can have back that portion of their sovereignty that the Civil Rights Act took away...so places like Texas no longer have to get permission from the Justice Department to gerrymander to the same degree that most states already have.
Also, the plot to stuff each swing state with hundreds of thousands of illegals and give them amnesty so Republicans never win another election is not happening. But not counting illegals for apportionment purposes might...
