After a long meeting between Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin, a spokesman for the latter announces that the Soviet Union will officially cease to exist on or before New Year’s Eve. Yeltsin declared that, “There will be no more red flag.” It was a rather anti-climactic culmination of events leading toward the dismantling of the Soviet Union.

I don't agree, except to say the list you presented was solid. I think the reasoning went more along the lines of a contested catch in the NFL, A tie goes to the Offense. And in this case the person with the most skin in the game was the former USSR. But that's just my take on it.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Yep...I agree, I think that is his plan. Funny how Yugoslavia went the other way, from United to separate countries. Countries none of the "Patriots" ever lived under.
