I used to be able to buy hardtack at a Scandinavian shop, locally. Can't find it anywhere now. When I want to crunch on something without resorting to chips, it is now RyKrisp - admittedly it tastes better and is easier on the teeth than hardtack. However, hardtack is so versatile, and travels well.

CPL Douglas Chrysler SGT Mary G. LTC Trent Klug Lt Col Charlie Brown Hardtack, designed for long-term storage as a military and sailor's ration and was known for its extreme hardness, bland taste, and incredibly long shelf life. It often required soaking in liquid to soften before eating and, was usually infested with weevils, earning it nicknames like "worm castles". Yummy!
