My fourth book in the Nick Andrews series is not a “Vietnam War story,” but the unraveling of a colonial construction.
Nick is sent to Vietnam by the French, not to reverse the effects of their defeat at Dien Bien Phu, but to negotiate an agreement that would allow the French to remain in Vietnam and continue to profit from their plantations there. While it seems a foolhardy errand, the French are desperate enough to grasp at any chance, and Nick has proven a worthy adversary at the negotiating table in other ventures for French commercial interests.
At the time of his departure, the conflict in Vietnam had ended. Thus, there is no reason why his wife, Lucia, should not accompany him, and her social graces could prove useful.
