The largest solar farm east of the Rocky Mountains could soon be built in Virginia and, depending on whom you ask, it would be either a dangerous eyesore that will destroy the area's rural character or a win-win, boosting the local economy and the environment. The solar panels would be spread across 10 square miles — 1.8 million panels soaking up the sun's rays.
The project is planned for Spotsylvania County, about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C. Amid the county's Civil War battlefields, farms and timberland, a fight is raging over the future of energy in Virginia, and in the Eastern U.S.
The heart of the solar resistance is in a gated community called Fawn Lake, built around a golf course and man-made lake.

I have seen some smaller solar farms that blended in but the larger one can be eye sores.

Wow. My dad did security in Fawn Lake for a while. Joe Gibbs, Redskins head coach for a while, has a house there. Why would they build it there? And so close to Wilderness Battlefield! Plenty of other cheap land in the county for sale! It’s like these people just target the battlefields or something! I hope the Fawn Lake people resist it-but they were part of the issue, too-their land abutts the battlefield & the Park Service offered to buy 462 acres of it in 2002: https://www.fredericksburg.com/civil_war/report-area-battlefields-in-danger/article_53001f4b-c989-5893-b16c-94375a220cee.html
I never found out what happened. I grew up about 15 minutes from that area. I haven’t kept up on the politics much since moving away to the Navy in 1997, back in 2006, but moved to Stafford in 2009, Fairfax County since 2012.
