Interestingly, many people in England were put to death to protect the Crown or the Crown's prerogative (as in providing Henry VIII with "quickie divorces"). I can't think of a comparable use of capital punishment in America. Can you?

The only time we were off the rails on this stuff was in killing people who were thought guilty of witchcraft. But that had nothing to do with the government.
