A constitutional convention would be a Brexit-scale crisis for the U.S.

As mentioned in the article, the amendment that has been proposed for decades is the balanced budget amendment. Not mentioned in the article is the justification for the title. Brexit is a fabricated disaster to say the least. Markets are fickle and dropped the day after the announcements but will get back up there soon. Britain will have new trade agreements and in the end, everything will go business as usual but without rules on cabbage directed from Brussels being forced down Britain's throat. I have 5 years to be proven wrong....
He also doesn't propose how a balanced budget amendment could be enforced effectively. Here's one: when the budget is not signed into law by the deadline (a good deadline would be before a break), a recall election will be imposed upon all members of congress. In fact, allowing recall elections on our members of congress may solve a lot of our problems since we are quick to forget stuff between election cycles and can take quicker action should they do stuff their constituents don't agree with.

Who in our brain trust governing our country do you think could do a better job than the Founders?

Arguments for both sides are made but I see this taking wings and going places we the people did not intend for it to go.....Or not, that is the problem....This could go any way !!! I'm on the fence.
