Fake news. Well...irrelevant news. Only two US Navy aircraft carriers have SONAR; USS Eisenhower and the old USS Enterprise. So one on one, you're not going to survive a submarine attack if you are a carrier. Period. Nextly, a carrier (for just that reason) takes a fast attack submarine with it for personal defense. The best anti-submarine weapon has always been another submarine. This is also why the surface Navy has allowed its shipborne ASW assets to atrophy. Silly manning patrol wings, earmarking helo's etc, when we have a $400 million submarine under us that can do it better.

Any submarine MAY be capable of penetrating the screen of a carrier strike force - MAY! This is a great example of what is possible but not probable.
Given the capabilities of the French Submarine and the actual capabilities of the ships involved, I have many questions about what actually happened. Some of the members of the Strike group may be able to shed more light on what really transpired.
