There's a lot of information in this article. It boils down to, If You already have one of them, You won't really get any advantage by running out and buying the other. They give the .270 the nod when varmint hunting because it doesn't look like You shot a pumpkin with a cannon ball. I'm not typically looking for meat if I'm shooting varmints, I just want them dead, besides I use My .17 for that situation. I've been a .308/7.62x51 shooter since the late 80's and see no good reason to change.
