I would guess that there is more to the story than we are being told. I haven't heard of anyone not being allowed to attend their mother's funeral. I would guess that there is more to the author's story than we are being told too.

Considering who wrote the story, I can take it at face value. Not only that from the storyline as presented and from first hand knowledge of similar instances, I can believe that it is true and factual.

I knew a lot of people in the 70s who got bad conduct discharges. Yes it is hard to upgade them but it can be done. Most don't care. They still think FTA.
