Now this is cool news. I lost a wallet on my second ship right after I went aboard. We gave the ship to South Korea. Before turnover we had to clean it from stem to stern. One day a MM1 came to the ship’s office and asked me if I had lost a wallet. I told him no, and he said then whose is this. It was my wallet which I had lost. I was happy to get it back. It had about 15 US dollars, 200 Hong Kong Dollars and about a 1000 RP pesos. Plus some pictures I could not have never replaced. I gave the money to the MM1. Not as good a story as the lost ID.

From a clinical perspective, if this family member is deceased, it becomes a significant "transitional object" for the surviving loved ones!
