Be careful you distinguish between patriotic acts and nationalistic acts.
While I applaud this young man in his efforts to make sure everyone who deserves it is honored, I don't find his actions, necessarily, patriotic. Other may, and that's fine, just expressing an opinion.
Having said all that, I have seen too many instance where nationalism and patriotism were confused. While I applaud true patriotism, I will always look upon nationalism with a bit of disdain. I don't think it has any business in our country.
I, personally, know many liberals and progressives, and have, not once, seen any of them try to shut down acts of patriotism. In fact, they are some of the most patriotic people I know.

A fair answer, one deserving a response. For me, patriotism comes in many guises. Defending the nation is one of the supreme acts of patriotism and supporting those who defend it (as did this boy) is also patriotic. Another form of patriotism (again, for me) is exercising liberty responsibly (taking responsibility for our words and deeds) as well as respecting others exercise of those same rights defends the very essence of the nation and thus, is patriotic. Finally, in my opinion, it's difficult, if not impossible, to be patriotic in a culture wherein people are denied liberty and forced to fight for a nation in which they are not sovereign. That is nationalism...

SSG Edward Tilton - More right wing projection. I don't remember saying, or even implying, that I am more patriotic than any one. Maybe you should re-examine what made you think I was.

I'm doubtful that I'll live to ever see the world united in common cause to the betterment of all persons. Society has a lot of growing up to do before that happens. But so long as nation-states exist, I'll be firmly behind the banner of my own.

This is my problem with "globalism". Any combination of nation-states would involve compromise. Which part of our Constitution would you compromise for "the betterment of all persons"?

CPT Jack Durish - Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think nation-states will cease unless we're trying to pull ourselves out from the ashes of a near-apocalyptic crisis and go into full world rebuild mode just to survive as a species. I'm just saying, I'm not going to be around to see it.

Mention """Globalism""" on Breitbart and all of a sudden their are Globalista's behind every tree. I caught two of them yesterday who wanted to suspend the IInd Amendment in the Capitol Building and the White House. Is there no end?
