This says it all...
"If you judged by social media, you’d think that America in the coronavirus crisis had a pro-lockdown faction led by Dr. Anthony Fauci and a “let it rip” faction led by a handful of red-state governors and professional conservative saber-rattlers." - Some people simply need to shut the hell up.

Too many within the media, on social networks, and then some are making this out to be you're either extreme on one side or the other. I for one am ready to see our states and economy open up gradually, safely, and through mitigation efforts to help prevent further infection. I know several business owners who are working hard to stay afloat and counting on more checks from the government is not the answer, nor is it what they want.

I have made a point to take part in going out to support local businesses, as Texas has started lifting the restrictions. I tip people a little more, and I thank them for staying strong and finding innovative ways to continue providing services to the community. Each and every one of them are working hard to adhere to the guidelines issued by the CDC, their state government, and their customers. Will it be perfect? No. Neither would a 100% lockdown imposed on Americans in a futile effort to completely stop Covid19. Even if we could eliminate the virus in 100% of Americans through lockdowns today, it will still come back once we all are able to leave our homes. Is the economy and the livelihood of Americans who do not have the luxury of being able to telecommute or simply take another mission essential job worth it? I don't think so.

This is no different than any other risk management issue many deal with in the military. When you cannot fully eliminate a threat, you find ways to apply a layered defense through mitigations and detection while still providing access to what is being threatened. As a cyber defense expert I do this everyday. What I don't do to is dismantle all the security capabilities, tools, and policies when a threat might be overwhelming... Nor do I shut down the network and prevent people from accessing it.

Same here. It's amazing the small things we can do. My next door neighbor has Parkinson's and has just lost the ability to play golf, which was his past-time since retriement. He has begun to help his wife in the garden and lawn, but can't do any heavy work. I left him a bucket of seed he could spread yesterday. It was a beautiful cool spring day and he seemed to enjoy that.
