I believe that this confrontation between a member of Congress and an FBI agent is an excellent case study in one of the most basic rules of combat: Choose your fights carefully. If there is anything about the relative strength of your enemy or their disposition, the terrain, anything that gives you pause, it's time to back away and live to fight another day. The Democrats appear to have totally forgotten that rule. When Rep Louis Gohmert attacks Agent Peter Strozk on his credibility, the Democratic members of the committee should have kept their mouths shut. The evidence is clear and universally known. Strozk's messages to his lover clearly demonstrate bias that should have precluded him in participating in the investigation of President Trump. It is well known that he was having an affair with a fellow FBI employee while purportedly married, and this clearly demonstrates that his was ability to honor an oath is tenuous at best. Thus, it was fair to impugn the veracity of his testimony in the most strident tones. Also, Rep Gohmert did not violate any rules of order or ethics in the manner in which he attack. What then may we conclude from the outbursts of the Democrats on the committee? That they are ready and willing to jump to the defense of anyone who is helping them attack President Trump? Yes, that is a perfectly valid conclusion. Thus, they have discredited themselves, they have spent their political capital (their good will) on a lost cause. Are they really that stupid? Would they lead a squad in a bayonet charge against a fortified battalion? It appears so. What then are we to make of their judgment? It is obviously impaired by their temper, their desperation of facing the upcoming elections without a viable platform other than their Resistance to President Trump. Is that enough to win the mid-terms when the economy is robust, people are gainfully employed, and the nation is at peace? I sure as hell wouldn't vote to upset that apple cart. Would you?
