A very powerful story, and tragic. We have to do better in serving our vets and each other. Suicide is real and the weight of war, horrific experiences, shame, guilt, pain, all leave a heavy burden to bear once we get home. Its not that we've done anything that is outside of our training that causes all the traumatization... but it is still there and many times we do not have the skill or ability to cope or handle the aftermath. Moral Injury is real! It causes a casualty list that is way to high and unecessary. We've got to do better! Each of our service members and vets deserve an answer/solution to this ongoing tragedy.

The old saying that time heals the hurt is kinda true. Myself ... I put the ugly shit in a box in my mind so it didn't cause anguish or worry for my loved ones. It got better with time and once in a while when I'm alone i'll open that box (usually with some vodka) and say it is what it is. At the end of the day, I believe it made me a stronger person. Best of luck brother!
