Erasing history is never a good idea. And the current exercise in expunging all relics of the "Old South" is an excellent example of just how unfair it all is. Are those tearing down Confederate monuments vilifying slave owners or are they vilifying all whites? I suggest it is the latter inasmuch as they are not polishing the monuments of those who fought to end slavery. (They were mostly white and Republican)

There are no votes to be gained by up-keeping Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's statue.

PO1 (Join to see) - Blacks are the only group where their history is still a work in progress, despite the available documentation: https://www.blackandblondemedia.com/2009/01/14/democrat-race-lie/

Ther's a big difference between erasing history and ceasing to honor a particular thing. No one has suggested removing information about the confederacy from history books or museums. That would be erasing history. Removing statues that glorify those who fought for the right of one set of humans to own another set of humans, the same way the own a horse, is not erasing history at all. Especially when you look at the time and place that many of those statues were erected in the first place. Many were put up at a time when certain groups were reviling against the results of the civil war and wanted to glorify the idea of white supremacy. So let's not cry crocodile tears that a young person in a public park today will no longer play under the shadow of a statue of Jefferson Davis praising the mans "vision" when that vision was a country where whites owned blacks.

Actually, Democrats lying about their history is what prompted me to create a short documentation: https://www.blackandblondemedia.com/2009/01/14/democrat-race-lie/

SN (Join to see) LTC (Join to see) I disagree about your comment about taking down monuments. That is erasing history. Those monuments to me serve as a reminder of a dark past in our history. Every time I see one it reminds me of where we were once in our nation. I won't ever forget the Civil War and its impacts on our nation but when I see these monuments I don't honor them as war heroes, they remind me of a sorted past and to not forget the sacrifices made to bring us back to together as one. We don't need to remove statues and monuments...they serve as much for history as any textbook IMHO.

I've NEVER advocated for the removal or erasure of any Confederate monument, especially when the sanctimonious left never mentions the inconvenient party affiliation. Not sure where you got that.
