I may be the odd man out. I approached both of my deployments to Afghanistan as if I were working in a jail or prison; I didn't want to go back home with anything I didn't go into theater with. I had the opportunity to eat Afghan food with the SF. They paid for a lamb from a local, when it was brought to the gate it was properly dressed but covered in flies. I made do with the American and German (really Italian) DFACs and the "special occasion" foodstuffs we were able to acquire from the G4. Ignorance may be bliss, but I don't have the intestinal issues a lot of my Soldiers do today that ate "local."

1SG (Join to see), Hell I wouldn't eat anything covered in flys, especially from over there. You don't know what dead stuff those flies were on, including humans, and poop.

How is their food? I've had all kinds of middle eastern food, is it similar to that?

OMG!!! Don't get me started!!!! You eat at the chow hall for breakfast, you're starving for lunch, after lunch, your starving for dinner.
Get a local Kabob, or chicken, that meal will last you all day!!! And the taste? Amazing!!!
