I find this to be an interesting case that will define much of our civil liberties as we grow to depend on technology. I see the government interest in this case and I agree that Apple as the technology creator must respond to the supeana and produce a method to break the encryption they created.
Apple doesn't have to make the encryption breaking public.
If Apple refuses then as a private actor they should bear the consequences in loss of contracts with the government and penalty for not providing a response.
This could go through the court proceedings and find relief from the supeana based on impossibility, with the argument that it may take years to develop a way to break it. Either way this is a valid government action and Apple should respond.
