There's a story that needs to be expanded on. 6 folks in leadership positions with our Nuclear Arsenal.

Sounds like the result of an inspection that found significant problems. The highest standards must be met by every officer, but even moreso those entrusted with special duties.

I was at Minot for three years....granted it was a long time ago (76-79). Those of us on HRP/PRP were tested monthly (written tests) on the security rules. Random UA...you could count on 3-4 times per year. It seemed we were always preparing for some sort of higher level HQ's inspection where we would be tested again etc. The mission then appears to be the same as now. 5th BW and 91 Missile Wing. And real cold weather. It was a SAC base in those days and SAC held a microscope on their bases. Perhaps they need a stronger microscope to ensure things are indeed being done as they should be. It did not affect our mission abilities negatively to have such a strong oversight. Maybe that strong oversight is exactly what they are trying to do again and these are the growing pains associated with that effort.

I was there at the end of SAC...When we transitioned tothe ACC world the BLack and White rules of Tigers eating their young went away. People that didn't live the SAC workd don't understand how tough it was and how tough it had to be. If we would have kept the SAC mentality withour bomber and missile fleet we wouldn't be having these problems. I was a section commander and remember geting phone calls in the middle of the night for folks that were sick and at the hospital ER and I had to go retrieve their SAC ramp badges until they were off the meds as prescribed. SAC didn't play but I guess now we are paying for leaving those rules in the wind.
