Alarmed by fake news, states push media literacy in schools

I took civics in the 8th or 9th grade, giving me a basic understanding of how our country works. So did every other kid. I’ve read where nowadays, many states don’t even have civics as a required part of the curriculum.

With kids on their phones constantly, I think this is something they really need to teach them. However, I've also noticed they aren't teaching geography like they used to, and my nieces and nephews don't have a picture of the US or other countries. You are right--they should have them read the Constitution, and discuss it, and teach them how government works.

In many cases where it is taught, the students merely parrot what is taught without knowing what they are taught in practice. I really wish we could get our youth more interested and involved in our political system, I fear pop culture,politics of division , and Howard Zinn verision of history has taken such deep roots in our education system. All I can say what a fricken mess we have on our hands.
