They could have changed the Girl Scout Program to allow girls to climb rock walls, cook freeze dried food on a mountain trek and the girls would have been happy I believe. Why is it necessary for the Boy Scouts to allow girls to join? Simply preposterous to me. The Venture Programs takes boys and girls and they mountain climb, white water raft, and other interesting things. Does every institution in America have to be torn down and challenged?

I've always said that if Girls Scouts needs/wants to be more like the Boy Scouts, then that's what needs to happen. Despite the push in today's world, there still needs to be a place and time for boys & girls to grow & learn with their peers separate from each other.

That being said, I have no issue with the Venture program being mixed gender - once they're young adults.

* My disclaimer, so don't think me too much of a hypocrite: My young daughter is in Cub Scouts this year. I don't agree with it, but she was dead-set on trying it out and I figured she should at least learn something and I can watch all this first-hand while covering the gaps myself. The Scouts, though, isn't what it used to be by any means.

All they've accomplished is to emasculate the scout program. It doesn't help girls to be known as Boy Scouts. Teaching girls personal and professional values helps girls. Teaching girls outdoorsmanship helps girls. Wearing a Boy Scout uniform doesn't help girls. You nut jobs weasle your way into positions of authority and think you make the rules. I've got bad news for you. My daughter is a perfect lady, she's well adjusted and happy. My son is equally developed and there's simply nothing you can do about it. They will raise their kids in a manner similar to that by which they were raised. We're not alone. There are tens of millions of families in this country similar to mine. Long story short, you lose.
