I think there is some truth in the study but it is really boils down to common sense - Someone immersed in chaos would embrace structure and order. As well I think it goes without reason that many develop better coping skills - I think more so for SF/Rangers/Seals but non the less when you walk through hell the other problems in life are rather simplified.

In this study I've linked would further support this as many of those that do commit suicide had rather short military careers and thus never got a chance to harden their metal.

However like I stated much of this is common sense - like a person who survived the great depression tends to be more frugal with their money - I wouldn't need a million dollar study to come to such conclusions.

SPC David S. - Spec; Indeed. It is only rational to seek out the type of life style you feel suits your needs.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The military is made up of psychologically damaged psychopaths. We should all feel sorry for them. After all they're just like "Old Yeller". We love em, but they are sick. Is it time to put them down yet? Travis fetch my gun.

Who funds these nonsense studies. In answer to the question, NO!!! the study isn't worth reading

Maj John Bell - Major; That isn't the conclusion that the study reached at all. In fact there wasn't even any mention of anything other than "family history".

I can quite understand that some people who come from a background that is lacking in standards and certainty would naturally gravitate towards a career that promises standards and certainty. I can also understand how some others might not.

The answer as to who funds these studies is that you and I do through our tax dollars.

We finance them to what end. We collect information and do nothing with it. Before this funding was ever obligated, what was the intended use of this information (regardless of how the study came out) that caused someone to say that this is a better expenditure of money than training ammunition or paint for the barracks?
