The first questions to be asked should always be "What is the ambient threat to America?" and "How are America's vital interests affected?". Prior to WWII, Great Britain had long considered itself as the world's guardian of the peace. When the war ended, a British diplomat came to Washington and admitted they could no longer do the job and asked if America would take over. Our fearless leaders accepted the task. It seems we are still trying, doesn't it? "What about the UN?" I hear you cry. "Isn't that their job now?" I'll let you figure out that one for yourself while I roll around on the floor laughing...

I agree with you COL, if we put our selves into every conflict we'd be bankrupt and totally spread thinner than butter.

You don't have to act each and every time, just enough to make everyone that if they go overboard, this can be the result. That has been missing in our foreign policy for a long time.
