Insurgents must love failed states and people who have legitimate grievances against the government. Moa said he will build up support through non violent or violent means. Much of wars and insurgencies can fit the Clausewitz Trinity, but every war and insurgency have unique qualities.

In WWII, we fire bombed cities, like Dresden in Germany. We won the war. Yes, some German civilians got bombed...but we won. WWI was pretty brutal. I wonder if our kindness is good or prolonging combat operations?

Face it there is no PC way to fight a war or terrorism, why do we keep trying?

Over committing is always what an insurgent enemy wants you to do.. being this alienates the population from you to them... and the rest of the world too. We may have strengthen the German resolve in WWII by our actions against civilian targets and our destroying so much of the historical centers of Europe. A failed idea I hope is now gone after ts last failure with shock and awe. Is it our kindness - or our war crimes that prolong the Long War? Knowing what the impact of such is to the enemy is critical in teaching it to the troops so we lessen them as best we can.

LTC Eric Udouj - You can not beat insurgent guerillas using just the CT pillar by itself. We have proven that now after 20 years of fighting them in detail... and winning every battle but losing each campaign. We lost our way early on in this war.. and have never again been able to focus on the enemy to wage a total war against them because we fight it with divided commands and competition for capability resources based on things other than the fight at hand. Africa is but one example of that.. when your enemy is focusing his efforts... and yet we are still focused in Syria...

And my replies were not aimed at what Jim was saying or at Jim.. they were aimed - but at senior leaders who got us this far without getting us closer to ending it.
