Android malware is taking over phones to mine for cryptocurrency

Yes, it is important to have antimalware just like antivirus software on your phone as well as your PC/MAC. I use Malwarebytes for Android and don't get malware. Thanks for posting this as a lot of people don't realize their cell device is just as vulnerable as their PC/MAC.
