I remember the grenade range during Army basic training at Ft. Leonardwood. The Drill Seargent was so scared, he was literally shaking as he held the box of grenades. He was muttering to himself, "Eight down, three to go..."

Part of me sympathized with him because I know people can be idiots, but my main thought was, "How hard can it be?" Apparently this fear pervaded the entire range, because the guy at my station told me in a nervous voice not to even aim, just throw the thing as far as I could. Which I did, without incident. I got a "Good throw!" from the tower.

Everyone got a "good throw!" from the tower. Except one guy got a little extra. From the tower, it initially looked like a good throw, but it went almost straight up, so what I heard was, "Good throw... WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?!?!" The staff near me got a little more pale and nervous, and I decided I didn't want their job.

This is nothing, just a couple of trainees a little ate up. When I was in basic in '89 on grenade day I once saw a kid throw the pin and not the grenade and the Drill Sargent had to grab him and both go over the wall as we hid behind the wall in the observation bunker.

Making the mistakes on the range is ok (just not on youtube!) Ok, he goofed. Its on youtube and now he feels he is dogmeat worldwide. 30 years from now people will ask, was that you on youtube? Poor guy. We have all been ate up before!

SFC Zach K - You have to joke. Its part of resiliency training that they don't teach you in the army. I knew cops that had to make a joke( to themselves afterwards) about the murders they responded to in order to keep their sanity. I saw that too in the movie Air America where they kept saying 'why are we here?
