Been done, TV series called "Twelve O'Clock High". Yes, I'll watch it.
I like the Band of Brothers better than the Pacific, mainly because following the single unit made for a much more coherent flow for the story. Maybe this one will be the same.

CPT Lawrence Cable I thought the Pacific series was great. It followed three Marines, Eugene Sledge, Robert Leckie, and John Basilone from Guadalcanal to Okinawa to home life. Representing the War in the Pacific was a big task. Following those three was relatable. The series was based mainly on the writings of Sledge and Leslie. By the way, Twelve O'Clock High was one of the better military TV shows in my opinion Thanks for the reminder!

SGT (Join to see) - I have both series box set, but I still think that Band of Brothers was more coherent. I've read the books by Sledge and Leckie, which helps fill in some of the holes in the story, and I have read Band of Brothers too. I think it helps to read the books before seeing them since you get the details left out in the series.
That goes for Blackhawk Down too, or maybe especially, since there was so many of the characters whose actions were really composites of events that happened to several other people.
I thought that the early seasons of "Combat" were pretty good considering the restrictions and technology available at the time.
