MSgt Steve Sweeney - Another theory is that the outbreak might have originated from thawing human remains. Because the ground is frozen solid the local tradition is to bury the dead in wooden boxes above ground and the same high temps that defrosted the reindeer carcasses also thawed out the grave yards....

Some more forgotten US history... In WWI German agents used anthrax here stateside to infect the livestock we were shipping to UK/Europe so the animals would arrive dead or sick. Black Tom attack is an interesting tale too...
