Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for January 18, 2025. The lunar occultation of Mars occurred January 13th, and this composite image was captured outside of Richmond, Virginia. Photos were taken every 2 minutes, creating a smooth Martian track upward relative to the motion of the Moon.

Good morning Maj William W. 'Bill' Price! My wife and I arrived in Fort Myers on January 12th, and on January 13th I woke up early and looked out our Lanai to see a spectacular panorama of our Full Moon in a crystal clear sky! I have never seen such a magnificent view of our moon, anywhere! This moon was at about 15-20 degrees angle and was huge sitting there over our 7th and 2nd Fairways! I could see planet Mars as well as Jupiter beyond the moon, but the moon was so vivid and clear I was overwhelmed by it... Unfortunately, I didn't think to get my cell and take a photo of it!!! Shame on me! LOL! Thank you for this refresh of this January 13th full moon!
