Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to this edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for January 30, 2025.
M33 (The Triangulum Galaxy) lies 3 million light years away and is nestled between the constellations Pisces (The Fish), Aries (The Ram), and Triangulum. This composite image was produced over the course of a month. The reds and blues emphasize the presence of ionized hydrogen and oxygen along the arms of the galaxy. The astrophotographer hails from Turin, Italy. Here are his notes:
"This is my first photo with the new telescope: Newton Tecnosky Carbon 200/800. I collected 18 hours of broadband signal and 9 hours with the Optolong L-Ultimate filter, under the skies of the Italian mountains. My aim was to highlight the beautiful and numerous hydrogen and oxygen nebulae that characterize this subject."
