As an American. As a combat veteran who feels coming home experiencing the craziness of the American dialogue of 1960’s politics, was much worse then my time in Vietnam. The same anti war elite of the 60’s are the same ones who committed our young to the latest wars. I was in Bremerton Naval Hospital surrounded by damaged bodies of war when both Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King were murdered. Racism motivated burning of American cities. Nothing has changed. The same fear of leaving Vietnam to the communists is with us today in our fear of leaving Afghanistan to the Taliban. Not much has changed only increased paranoia and fearing each other with divisive politics. All cheered on by fake Christian and other demagogues.

Archie... Your post is one of the most eloquent posts that I have read. Let me assure you that you are not alone. I for one, am in agreement with your statement.

I was a student at the University of Iowa when Kent State happened. I was enrolled in Army ROTC. I was a member of Pershing Rifles. We were hosting the National Drill Competitions, and our event was crashed by protesters. We stood down and cancelled the competition. Soon thereafter the protesters took over the campus and the college shut down. I went home, worked construction and subsequently enlisted in the Army and volunteered as a combat infantry soldier to serve in Vietnam. I morn those whose lives were taken so tragedy for their actions. I proudly served with the 101st Airborne. I would do it again if asked.
It was a time of termoil for our nation. The political machine created it. They failed those who served and more importantly they failed the people of Vietnam.
