No. It's been thoroughly debunked for years, however this is one of those "common knowledge" pieces of GARBAGE that we cannot seem to get out of the media.
It's just as bad as the 78 cents on the dollar GARBAGE that seems to have permeated the mindset.
It's a disingenuous argument that acts as a distraction to the real issue.
If we had a 20% (20,000:100,000) Crime Rate in ANY Violent Crime, in ANY Segment of the population, there would be LITERAL (not figurative) riots in the streets. America has more guns than people. If 1 in 5 daughters were getting RAPED in college, daddies would take this in their own hands very quickly.
The survey where this came from was "inflated" based on a single year, and bad terminology. When you multiply "assault" (Battle of the Lexicon) of 4-5% x4 (four years of college) and come up with 16-20% and then apply it to the population at large... you make it sound insane, when the problem (yes it is a problem) is significantly smaller than presented.
The issue "I" have is that when someone lies to me about the SCOPE or SEVERITY of the problem, I am going to destroy them on CREDIBILITY. If they are willing to use HYPERBOLE to enact change, I am willing to use ABSURDITY to counter their arguments.
No, 1 in 5 women have not been raped on college campuses
A shock claim that “one in five women on college campuses have been sexually assaulted” has been parroted by politicians — including President Obama — who are hoping to score points defending women in a supposed war against them. But in reality, this claim is misleading at best.It has been debunked multiple times, but apparently the paranoia it causes is just too good to let facts get in the way, so I am going to debunk it again. The statistic...
This is not cool, but the harsh reality of our social posture. College is supposed to be a safe haven for higher learning. Which is why I am buying my daughter a gun to go with her Mac computer, for college!! HELL YEAH!!
YES!!!
Anyone that says anything different is lying to themselves or has their heads in the sand. This is something that should NEVER be tolerated.
Survey: More than 1 in 5 female undergrads at top schools suffer sexual attacks
The Association of American Universities report is one of the largest to look at college sex assault.
