Army challenges Vegas Golden Knights hockey team over its name

You also have to worry about precedent. If they do not try to fight the hockey team using it what about when a prostitution (legal) ring wants to use it or some other unsavory organization? If they let the hockey team do it without incident or challenge they will have to let others as well.

I have to believe the Army gave this some thought.

I suspect that the concern is that if the hockey team patents it, the Army may be constrained downstream in how it uses "Golden Knights" in advertising and on souvenirs. I hope that a legal mechanism can be found to accommodate both ... because absent the patent question, I agree wholeheartedly with your comment.

I can see the Vegas Golden Knights forced to drop the Golden part of its name. I think Folley hurt himself when he said he was naming the team after the Army. If you Google Golden Knights the only thing that comes up is the Vegas Golden Knights stuff you actually have to Google Army Golden Knights to see anything about the parachute team.
