First dose of common sense since the Army started changing AR 670-1 in 2001. But, please roll them the "old" way. The sleeves on the guy in the picture are causing me to go into a nervous twitch.

Give me a break, I hated doing this with the BDU, why do they spend money on pen holders and pockets and then have us roll up the sleeves and we can use them. Now we will get to see all the ugly tattoos soldiers scare there body with.

Pens can be placed in different pockets and the shoulder pockets depending on the roll, may still be accessible. The point is, that this is what today's Army wants. At least a good majority of it. "Ugly tattoos" is your opinion, but to most soldiers it is an expression of themselves. If you don't like change sir, you're in the wrong profession.

SPC (Join to see) - Hello, I joined in 2000 at age 39 to serve our country and the USA. It was before the War and the Army had standards, however when WAR developed the Army Standards changed to get more warm bodies in uniform. The all Volunteer Army has caused many problems with the Military including increasing the cost. The Army ( and DOD) should focus on one issue Defense of Nation. The Social Experiment of an all Volunteer force should stop and all issues should be directed to that goal of National Defense( Not World Wide), Issues like Tattoos, Black PT socks, Sleeves rolled up or down, ASU versus change in greens , lax APFT based on MOS, Gender neutral requirements for MOS, do amount to a hill of beans. What's next smoking Weed if you are based in CO ? The Military won WW II with a different Army at a lot less cost, maybe it was not so bad. I will stay in my Profession serving the Soldiers who are hurt or injured regardless of what they wear.

The problem I see with this policy is when or if it comes down that we can roll our sleeves, someone will always say it is at the discretion of the command. Then that someone, no offense to the commanders, makes the decision from inside their air conditioned office that the soldiers that spend most of their time outside need to keep their sleeves down. Keep the standards, issue sunscreen, and allow the soldiers this one comfort while in garrison.
