Why not build ambulances on new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) chassis?? HUMVEES are a softer target that the JLTVs.

There needs to be a happy medium to a dedicated armored ambulance and a light non armored PT transport. I worked with the Finnish when I was in the EU and it was nice but only carried one PT. My Armor days I had a M113A3 ambulance, a platform we already have a ton of. I guess I don't get why we need to keep re inventing the wheel (pun intended).

So the contract is for $800 million... that means after post award contract modifications, congressional pork barrel modifications, and underbids, the army gets about 8-10 ambulances total.... right?
