I guess I will have to stick my neck out there and say that we are Soldiers, not freaking armadillos. Our job, when it comes to that, is to close with and destroy the enemy. We are putting so much weight and restricting so much movement in the name of survivability that it is making it difficult to actually maneuver, use cover, and IMT while under fire.
It is always a race between armor and firepower; firepower always wins. Giving up the third element, maneuver, in my opinion makes us overly dependent on our own firepower to establish tactical dominance.
A balance has to be struck.

That's why I never wore the DAPS, super restrictive...there are trade offs to be made and each Soldier should be able to make that decision for themselves (within reason).

Agreed.... daps are cumbersome.. to the point you can no longer aim properly..but i think its designed by some who dont ever do the imt.. they just show up for engagement speecjes or the aftermath of a fight

First, I want to express sincere appreciation for the design effort and troop support. However, all I can thank about are long, light fighter foot patrols with chronic monkey butt caused by Kevlar chaps. They look like they would stop small, slow moving shrapnel (aka ballistic missiles not 7.62), if the angle was just right. Anything large or fast isn't gong to have a good outcome, with or without chaps. Sorry about the negative comment on a well meaning product. Being an old Sapper, I always visualize the havoc of a directed shape charge, or a Claymore, or a M16 Bouncing Betty, etc.

This is great development. While simple and expected, I wish that we didn't post everything in the news. We should let some things remain a surprise until after issue and use.
