Always interested in reports involving failure of leadership. This one is frustrating. If he was shown not to exhibit racist behaviors, and his troops were satisfied with his leadership, what did he do that was "counterproductive"?

This seems to be a disturbing trend that began around the time that LT. GEN O'Rielly was investigated COL (Join to see)

Note that "counterproductive leadership" has replaced what used to be called "toxic leadership."

"The investigation found that "Gamble did not discriminate based on race, and that most of his actions had a positive impact on the organization," Smith said in a statement Wednesday. "Additionally, command climate surveys identified a majority of Lt. Gen. Gamble's subordinates were satisfied with his leadership. The investigation did, however, substantiate that he displayed counterproductive leadership behaviors at times, for which he received a general officer memorandum of reprimand.""

"Gamble was reported to the Army's inspector general in September 2020 over allegations he made racist remarks about Black subordinates, along with other inappropriate comments, according to an article published by Task & Purpose, which was first to report on the investigation."

It seems that's what triggered it. Just because someone can be a good leader doesn't mean they can't also be toxic or counterproductive.

I find it non-credible that a leader who is generally liked and supported by his subordinates is a toxic leader.

Outstanding leaders do not display counterproductive leadership at anytime. Especially at that level. Since not all his subordinates were satisfied with his leadership, it would be interesting to know what was reported and the demographics. Same for the folks that did like and support him. When you are not on the receiving end of toxic leadership, it is not too difficult to be satisfied in my opinion.
