It is an interesting way to describe the Congressional appointed Secretary of the Army who was nominated by the POTUS as "Newly minted Army Secretary Eric Fanning" as though he came off a production line.
I am not surprised that he took the opportunity to laud "trainers at Fort Jackson on Tuesday for their skill in integrating female soldiers into basic combat training."
After all, women soldiers have been going through "basic" combat training since before Eric Fanning was born. The training was not integrated as it is today since women were separated from men trainees for basic training.
Fort Jackson may have started with adding women into basic combat training in the 1980s; but, the women soldiers I went through the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) in 1975 - 1976 went through basic combat training although it went by a different name.

Fort Jackson has been a great post for almost a 100 years! Thanks for the post SFC Joe S. Davis Jr. I was just in Columbia today!

Whew before Fanning female soldiers just appeared from thin air all trained up. The magic Army ferry wiggled her nose and boom......a fully trained female 31B qualified PFC appears. Thank God for Obama or we would have to wish female soldiers into units.
