I hear that the F-22 was a failure in many ways - but despite all that - it as iconic and a big reason why I wanted to be a fighter pilot as a young teen. If I ever have the chance to fly in an F-22, I'll never forget it!

If all this is true I wouldn't hesitate to shut down this project. Why throw good money after bad?

F-35 not designed to be air to air fighter. People don't seem to understand that just because an aircraft has the "F" designation its mission may not be dogfights. Love to tell story of flying Red Flag missions against F-15s when I was flying FB-111. The F-15s would clean our clock at altitude, but get them low in our domain and we would hit the afterburner and leave them in a cloud of dust; they just couldn't keep up when in the environment we were designed to operate in.
