The use of taxation for controlling, regulating, discouraging, or modifying legal behavior is obscene. Either make the activity illegal or get Uncle Sam's hand out of my pocket.

Concur on that .. Some communities say thry’re Doing it for health reasons(taxing amount of sugar per oz. say soda is 24 Oz. And they tax at a penny per Oz. ..
but that’s a ruse.. it’s not going to pay for fillings and cleaning poor kids teeth.. it’ll never get there.
Like the lotto being used for schools.. there are twos that have beautiful libraries but nobody using them .. how they get them? Traffic fines from overweight trucks.. in Michigan anyway.. maybe a few old folks.. that fall asleep reading old Nat Geo mags..

SSgt Boyd Herrst - If the government is able to tax behavior that is unhealthy, the majority of us will not be able to afford to live indoors, have basic utilities service, and groceries.

People will always find a way around the tax. For example if Mi. Had a tax they’d need to work with Ohio and Indiana or the counties bordering Mi to do a tax, that way Mi residents would stay home and buy their soda/pop . We have members in our department of V.F.W. That are along state line ghat will goto Ohio to pay sales tax so they don’t have to pay deposit and take the cans back ..
