Good morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "A View Toward M106." Messier 106 (left, also know as NGC 4258) is located between the constellations Ursa Major (The Big Dipper) and Boötes (The Herdsman). NGC 4217 is below and to the right. M106 is unique for its natually occuring microwave laser (maser) emissions. Masers are produced by water molecules in molecular clouds orbiting the galactic nucleus. M106 is about 80,000 light-years across and 23.5 million light-years away.
