Maybe we can address the hatred of kids who do well in school? Who work to educate themselves? I grew up in a not so great part of town, went to a HS that had two rival(as much as it could be called one) housing projects feeding it. Had a guy, smart, articulate, didn't cuss, wasn't vulgar, treated everyone with respect.. Completely ostracized for selling out his culture for trying to be white. Bullied for not being black, etc.. I don't get that. He had a better future mapped out and was taking steps to accomplish it.. why hate on him for doing what they all said they were going to do? You know, that whole I'm gonna leave this place behind, make something of my self.. Because he chose to do it academically?

SGT (Join to see) - should have may be wording it a bit strongly, but it's something that will need to enter the conversation sooner or later. I'm not the person to bring it up with the type of person who does it.. I'm a bit too Caucasian . Honestly, it's good to see community trying to self evaluate and improve.

SGT Alan Dike - Its always saddening to see that one white guy that will put more effort into providing constructive feedback for this topic while the average black viewer simply ignore it. A big realization I share with others when someone brings up racism.

How would "Hip-Hop/Rap" be now if Gangster Rap had been a fleeting trend and/or it stopped...
What do you perceive as the difference between hip hop and rap music? How could you see the genre being now hadn't money, sex, drugs, and violence taken priority over uplifting, educational, and thought-provoking messages?

SGT (Join to see) - can't say much there having grown up listening to both. Listened to more Pac, Scarface, and Ice cube than I did PE though, and I missed the golden days of gangster rap. I always felt that genre was about getting the message about the struggles of daily life out there while adjusting the sound of the music to match the message. Of course, there was a lot of studio play in it, bit quite a few gems made it through in spite of the industry. Dear Mama, Smile, Mind playing tricks on me (both versions). All tell a similar story through different lenses.. and with different impacts.

SGT (Join to see) - Naa..... MCPO Roger Collins is one of those few words Master Chiefs. I remember watching one of my squadron mates receiving more than a few words from our few words Master Chief. I can tell you he was wishing to never hear that much out of Master Chief again.
