From what my Aussie friends tell me, there are still plenty of guns "out there" in Australia - carefully hidden and not reported - that were not turned in because many Aussies are not pro-government automatons who just obey without question. Given that the BBC News (an anti-gun British news service) reported this information from anti-gun Australian government sources, I would have doubts about its credibility - probably over-reporting the number of guns turned in to make the effort look like it was more of a success than it actually was. My friends also told me that many of the turned-in guns were either incomplete or junk - in some cases inoperable. The guns in the photo (which include a Luger pistol, a Colt revolver, a Webley revolver and a couple of French interwar military rifles - were probably the most valuable ones collected by the authorities and displayed to make the gun round-up look good. Collectors will weep at the sight of that.
