TSgt Joe C., Ken Burns in his PBS mini-series, "Baseball", painted a somewhat different picture of the Dodgers departure from Brooklyn, if I recollect correctly. Walter O'Malley could not get the stands filled even when in the heat of a pennant race. The Brooklyn fans simply didn't go to the games. Other sources support this as well, I think.
Walter took the Dodgers to LA, where he got a new stadium and the financial support (via crowd attendance) that he would have preferred to have in Brooklyn. LTC Stephen F. Maj Marty Hogan

I have an autographed photo of Don Larson in my home office. Only perfect game in World Series History. It was fitting that it was between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees. The Dodgers won the 1955 World Series.

LTC Stephen C. - well - I have an autographed photo of Derek Jeter on the wall of my home office and his rookie card as well. I also have a second autographed photo of Don Larson in my safe.

LTC Orlando Illi, many people don't know this, but any kid growing up in the South in the mid-fifties had no local teams to call their own. I picked the Yankees for my team and I've been a fan ever since!

Thanks for reminding us that on May 28, 1957 the National League owners voted unanimously to allow the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers to move to San Francisco and Los Angeles respectively TSgt Joe C.
Moving from NY City to the west cost was traumatic for many fans and the families of the players who would need to move across the country and resettle in a strange area. "West Coast baseball fans were overjoyed, and the people of New York City were heartbroken."
Thanks for mentioning me LTC Stephen C.
