Interesting read, thanks for sharing. I found humor in some of the descriptions of the combatants about each other, particularly one describing another as "quite a smaller Potato than he had imagined."

This is just across the river from me. Even though it was a Confederate victory, against mainly untrained militias, and lead to the Capture of Lexington and Frankfort. It didn't lead to a local uprising of recruits as expected. The later battle at Perrysville, which ended the invasion of Kentucky, again points out the one of the weaknesses of the Confederacy west of the Appalachian was that their logistical support was horrible.
With the failure of achieve any real victory at Perrysville and Antietam, and the Union Victory at Vicksburg, the Confederacy was a lost cause for the rest of the War.
