I'm fixing to retire again in a few years and go...I'm looking at 6 months. Been over some of the Trail and talked to many who've done the majority or finished it and they all say that many days you're lucky to get 10 miles in, the average is far less than 18 per.

While I applaud Joe's amazing speed hike, I hope he goes back and hikes the AT again at a slower pace to enjoy the magic of the trail, God's beauty and the amazing people Of the trail. On my thru hike, I met some amazing people, experienced some amazing scenery and had six months and three weeks to rediscover myself. Moreover, as a military Bugler, I carried our flag and sang Taps at night to remember our fallen Warriors and deceased veterans. It was more of a mission then a race.
